Well, it’s still May for a couple more days. It’s time to squeeze in the Starbucks ornament for the month. I was trying not to put them in an order where it would feel overly Christmas-y all the time. This month may (and, also, may not) hit that mark. “What’s that?”, you ask.
Garland!
First Up, Dot Garland: The specifics: This couldn’t be easier! Using Starbucks’ red holiday cups (sorry, you’ll have to wait till they’re back in season!). Using a 1″ hole punch, punch randomly, getting as many dots as possible. Don’t have enough red cups?
An easy remedy, punch 1″ circles from white cups and use a red stamp pad to cover the white. If you use Tim Holtz’s distress inks, you will be able to see any print showing through. (I used Barn Door, but use what you have or like!) For some reason, the photo really washed the inked ones out–they are more red in person.
For this version, jute was sandwiched between a red dot and inked dot which were glued (using Tacky glue) about 3″ apart. The strings are made in 3 ft. lengths.
Garland Version No. 2 – Snowflakes!
Snowflake Garland: This is slightly more complex. Using your plastic lid–yes, you read that right. Cut the rim from the center portion, as shown:
For these you will need a Big Shot die cutter (or similar) that will use Sizzix Originals Snowflakes #3 Die. Every time you get two lids, you can cut yourself a set of snowflakes. I don’t know why, but this was really rewarding… (Maybe because with a few cranks of the die cut handle–beautiful flakes!)
For these, I used 4 ft. lengths and used Tacky glue (hot glue might work, I haven’t tried it, yet) and glued the flakes about every 4-5″.
So, what do you think??? Are you feeling flakey,
or dottie…?
All Starbucks ornament projects are made from self-generated trash.
