Here we are the last day of March! Did you think I wouldn’t make March’s post? The problem (well one of them) is that I have the ornaments done, but don’t have all of the how-to steps photographed.
This month’s has some of the steps, the ones that are missing are so easy, you won’t even, um, miss them!
Welcome to March’s Starbuck’s Upcycled Cork Tassel ornament!
Supplies needed:
- One Starbucks band
- One wine cork (I had some that I had purchased as vase filler.)
- Jute
- Thread
- Bead or button
- Glue (hot & tacky)
- Gold Trim and ribbon
- Eyehooks
- Gold spray paint (optional)
- Scissors
- Rubber band
Easy-peasy how-tos: Starting from the center, top (clockwise). Red jute was purchased at JoAnn’s. Using the hang tag that came with the jute, I made a tassel. It is approx. 2 1/2″ long. Wrap about 12x’s around your template. Tie off with your choice of string. I used fishing line. Wrap a small piece of jute on the end that you just tied off, trim. (Not shown: String a bead or button with the ends of the thread you just tied the tassel with, knot, then hot glue to the bottom of a wine cork.
Trim the Starbucks band to the size of the wine cork. Glue on with Tacky glue and hold it on by wrapping a rubber band around it till it dries. Using hot glue, add a tiny (about 1/8″) gold braid around the top and bottom. (I also experimented using gold & copper Perfect Pearls on a couple of them to give them some shimmer. I’m not sure if I’m loving that or not.)
Paint small eyehooks with gold spray paint (if desired). Screw into top of cork. Tie with gold ribbon.
Tips: I unraveled the jute to make the tassel fuller. You don’t have to use wine corks, I used them because I had them. You could use a wooden dowel trimmed to size (which was my first idea, until I remembered the corks), or something similar.
(All Starbucks materials were from trash generated by me or a friend or family member!)
