Hello! Isn’t this a nice surprise (well for me, at least) that I’m posting again? I wanted to share this hutch redo that I completed recently. It was the first time I have used Annie Sloan’s Old White. I’m usually an Old Ochre girl.
Unfortunately, this is the only completed photo remaining. This was a nice little Ethan Allen piece that I found on Craigslist. I had envisioned using it in the store as my candle display (as shown!).
Here she is in her “before” state. Despite seeing this type of curving trim repainted fabulously on Pinterest, I was still a little apprehensive. (Oops, no “before” of the base–where was that camera?)
In progress–to paint the hinges, I followed the instructions over at The Purple Painted Lady. Briefly: REMOVE hinges or handles and dry brush them. On furniture, paint right over where the hinges will be. It isn’t really necessary to paint the screw heads, but I had kind of done that already (before reading her instructions). For waxing: Use residual wax from brush or cloth, so they get a light coat. [Tip: My "drop cloth" is an old shower curtain.]
You can see that there is paint over where the hinges well end up.
And…there are no waxing photos… It was first gone over with a coat of clear wax. That was left over the weekend. For the dark wax, I mixed about a 4:1 wax to mineral spirits ratio to give me a little more flexibility with that dark wax. No matter how many times I’ve used it, I never feel overly confident. I spent time trying to get it into the groves in the back of the hutch and did a little light sanding on some of the edges.
She’s too cute! So cute, in fact, that she sold within hours of me putting her on the floor! Do you have a favorite ASCP color? (The small chalkboard signs are from Decor Steals.)
